Being inflicted by Ayn does not mean that one is rich or good looking, It rather means that they are short on Athkar. Ibn Othymayeen

Ayn means Evil Eye, also known as Nazar.

Hasad is the act of engulfing oneself in jealousy, harboring a desire for the depletion of someone else’s blessings. Jealous Ayn is a expression of Hasad through the look and stare of the eye, and both have the potential to deprive an individual of their well-being, prosperity, and, in extreme cases, their life.

Hasad is a blend of jealousy and hatred that holds the potential to harm someone or their possessions. It doesn’t necessitate the jealous individual to see or observe the person or object they are directing their jealousy towards.

Hasad doesn’t require seeing the object; harm can occur simply by hearing about the blessing, affecting individuals. In contrast, Ayn impacts humans, animals, and objects and requires actually seeing the person, animal, or object.

Prophet Muhammed said, “Most of the deaths in my nation, following the decree of Allah, are due to the Ayn.” Al-Jamia Alsaghir 1379

Ayn and Hasad could be more damaging than black magic and are more widespread than commonly acknowledged, particularly in the current era. This affliction stems from a pervasive dislike for witnessing others experience success and prosperity. In the contemporary age, our tendency to live in glass houses and showcase every aspect of our lives exacerbates the issue. People often exaggerate their appearances and then wonder how they become susceptible to the Evil Eye.

♦ Prophet Muhammed: “Rely on confidentiality in getting your goals accomplished.”

Symptoms of being afflicted with Evil Eye (Nazar):

The influence of Ayn varies among individuals; while some may be spiritually stronger than others, no one is entirely immune to its effects. A strong-willed person has the ability to push away the majority of the harm of Ayn inshallah.

Symptoms:

Frequent yawning, crying, weakness, hesitation, yellowness, dark spots on the skin, Isolation, sudden physical sickness, dizziness, migraines, disappointment, exhaustion, bad temper, suicidal thoughts, unexplained fear, especially of death or losing someone, vomiting, diarrhea and sweating during Ruqia, frequent burping, skin burning, and itchiness, frequent spitting of phlegm, feeling very hot or cold compared to your company, tightness in the chest, pimples, bloating, anxiety disorder, cancer, seeing in nightmares bugs, cats, scorpions, ants, gecko, dogs, and graves. Tightness in the chest especially after sunset or after seeing a specific person. Patients inflicted with Ayn tend to sigh during the Ruqiah. Feeling cold, especially in the limbs, during Ruqyah indicates Ayn, particularly the admiring Ayn. However, feeling heat in the body would indicate hasad (envy) or the evil eye.

Prophet Muhammed said, “The evil eye (Ayn) can affect a person so severely that it could drive him to climb a high mountain and throw himself off.” Authentic

Types of people who harm others with Hasad:

Imam Fakhr al-Din al-Razi noted that individuals who practice hasad can be categorized based on their awareness and control over their envious feelings:

1. Unintentional Hasad: Some individuals practice hasad without realizing they are doing so. Their envy arises subconsciously, and they are not fully aware of its presence.

2. Conscious but Uncontrollable Hasad: There are those who know they are giving others Hasad but find it difficult to control their envious feelings. They may struggle to keep their eyes or thoughts from expressing this envy.

3. Conscious and Controllable Hasad: Some individuals are aware of their envious feelings but possess the self-discipline to control their actions. They can choose whether or not to harm others by their envy.

4. Hasad through Observation: Some people practice Hasad when they observe someone’s progress or success. This visual stimulus triggers their envy.

5. Hasad through Hearing only: Others may practice Hasad when they hear about someone’s accomplishments or successes. The verbal description alone can spark their envious feelings. This is important for those living overseas to understand: if you wonder whether someone back home can give you Hasad, the answer is yes—they can, simply by hearing about your progress.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Beware of Hasad (being consumed with envy), as it consumes your good deeds just as fire consumes firewood.”  Riyad as-Salihin 1569

Self-harm

It’s possible for an individual to inadvertently cast the Evil Eye upon themselves and their children. It underscores the importance of safeguarding not only against external influences but also from potential harm that can come from within, emphasizing the need to protect ourselves and our families even from our actions. That’s why Allah highlighted this matter in the Quran by stating “Why, When you entered your garden did not say, everything is as Allah wills, There is no power except with Allah”.  مَا شَاءَ اللَّهُ لَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

Prophet Muhammed: “Evil eye is real and if something would overwrite destiny, it would be evil eye.”

In the Quran, Allah also recounts the story of Prophet Jacob cautioning his son, Prophet Joseph, against sharing his dream with his brothers. Even the mere narration of a dream, in which Joseph learned from Allah about his future significance, had the potential to evoke envy (Hasad) and breed animosity. Prophet Jacob, aware that his many sons were exceptionally handsome and well-built, further advised them in the same Surah (chapter). He urged his sons not to enter Egypt through the same entrance, emphasizing the importance of using different entrances. Prophet Jacob foresaw that the simultaneous arrival of a group of remarkably good-looking brothers at the same place and same time could easily provoke envy.

Um Salama narrated that the Prophet saw in her house a girl who had a pale face. He said: “Treat her with Ruqia. She has been impacted by the evil eye.” Authentic in Bukhari

Throughout life, people work on acquiring health, wealth, offspring, etc. They put all their energy into accumulating these bounties. However, they rarely put enough effort into preserving these bounties against Hasad and Ayn.

Mother Aisha, wife of Prophet Muhammed, reported that “Prophet Muhammed came in and heard a child crying. He said “Why is your child crying? Would you get him Ruqyah against Ayn?”

Living in denial

When individuals are cautioned about the potential for envy (Hasad), they often dismiss the concern by saying, “I don’t possess anything noteworthy that could provoke envy.” Some even question the existence of envy, wondering why prominent figures, like celebrities, seemingly evade its effects. In reality, some only recognize the blessings of Allah once they are no longer in possession of them.

Celebrities

Regarding celebrities, they selectively disclose aspects of their lives, revealing only what they choose to share. They conceal the impact of the Evil Eye on them until it becomes no longer possible to hide. However, there are individual differences in our susceptibility to the evil eye.

Prophet Muhammed, “Stay away from suspicion, for suspicion is the most misleading thought. Do not spy, do not competedo not envy one another, and do not hold grudge against each other. Be the servants of Allah and be each other’s brothers.” Authentic in Bukhari

♦ Prophet Muhammed used to seek Refuge with Allah for Al-Hasan and Al-Husain (his grandsons) and say: “Your forefather (i.e. Abraham) used to fortify Ishmael and Isaac by saying: ‘Allah! I seek Refuge in the wholeness of your Words from every devil and stray and from every noxious, evil eye.’ أَعُوذُ بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لاَمَّةٍ

Numerous gatherings, particularly weddings, often attract envy (Hasad) and the evil eye (Ayn). The desire to present one’s best self is overshadowed by subsequent feelings of sorrow and illness, casting a shadow of depression due to Hasad.

Jinn can give humans evil eye

It’s noteworthy that Hasad can also originate from Jinn. This is why Prophet Muhammad sought refuge in Allah from the eyes of both Jinn and humans. Changing clothes without uttering “Bismillah” (in the name of Allah) may draw the attention of the Jinn within a household, particularly in settings with music and pictures.

The more fortunate may envy the less fortunate.

An intriguing aspect arises when someone directs the evil eye toward someone less fortunate in terms of health, wealth, or beauty. While Ayn and Hasad can contribute to illness, it’s perplexing when individuals resort to harmful practices like drug use as a means of seeking relief from the effects of the evil eye.

How to do Ruqiah to kids?

♦ Othman Ibn Affan (companion of the prophet) saw a handsome young boy. He said: “Smear the dimple of his chin so he does not get Ayn”

Do Ruqiah to your kids, put your hand on the forehead of your child and recite for 3 or 7 times the following:

Al-Fatiha, the first few verses of Surat Al-Baqarah, the last 2 verses from Surah Al-Baqarah, Ayat Al-Korsi, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and Al-Nas.

If you are in a rush because you are in a gathering outside of the house, you could just recite the 3 Moaothat 3 times each (Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and Al-Nas.)

Ayn and Hasad impact humans, objects, properties, animals, and plants.

♦ Prophet Muhammed said, “Most of what gets my Ummah (nation) in the grave is Ayn” and He also said, “Ayn will keep working on someone until he throws himself off a cliff” (meaning commit suicide).

There are 3 types of Eyes (Ayn/ Nazar)

  1. The Ayn of people, admiring or jealous Ayn, both are destructive. A jealous eye is more damaging than an admiring eye.
  2. The Ayn of Jinn is when Jinn strike humans with Evil Eye. The Ayn of Jinn is very severe, It feels like being pierced with arrows.
  3. The Eyes (Ayn) of Animals. Scholar Ibn Al-Qayyim gives an example of the danger of a staring snake. Prophet Muhammed instructed us in an authentic Hadith to kill 2 specific species of snakes because they cause blindness and miscarriages. Ibn Abbas said, “If you see dogs, cats, or the like, stare at you while eating, throw food to them. They have souls that desire.” People notice that when they eat outdoors in a restaurant, for example, stray cats stare at every bite they eat. Beside, being merciful, to avoid the harm of their eyes, give them a piece to eat.
Interestingly, in the old days, ladies in villages who cooked outdoors used to say if a cat sees you cooking, give them a piece of food, otherwise, you could cut your hand while cooking because they give you a jealous eye.

Incident during the days of the Prophet

Sahl Ibn Hunaif and Amir Ibn Rubiah wanted to bathe. So they went to a stream of water. Sahl took off his woolly garment. Sahl said I looked at Amir and harmed him with my eye. I heard him bouncing in the water, so I went to him and called on him three times, but he did not answer me. So I went to the Prophet and told him. He walked to us and then waded through the water, his lower legs were exposed.
He stroked Amir Ibn Rubiah on the chest, and said:
“May Allah relieve him from its (Evil Eye) heat, cold, and sickness.” So Amir got up. The Prophet said: “If any of you sees something about yourself, your property, or your brother that you like, you should ask Allah to bless it, for the evil eye is real.” Authentic – Musnad Al-Imam Ahmad

This Hadith teaches us the following:

1- The Prophet stroked the chest area of the patient, so we should target this area with treatment like Hijama and Ruqiah oil.

2- Ayn causes patients to feel extreme heat and/or cold.

3- It teaches us that Ayn causes fatigue and sickness.

4- You could give Ayn to yourself or your property.

If someone is experiencing any or all of the above, does not mean that they have been given Ayn. What these symptoms mean is if someone has Ayn, they are likely to experience one or more of the above symptoms.

Prophet Muhammed said, “Ayn is real. It brings over Shaitan and the Hasad of the son of Adam” (Daif)

Evil Eye brings Shaytan

The evil eye (Ayn) might lead to the entry of a Shaitan into the body, infiltrating through the harm caused by the evil eye. Subsequently, the Shaitan takes residence within the individual, resulting in a complex affliction. The patient undergoes treatment to address the repercussions of envy (Hasad) affecting their family, health, and wealth. Additionally, treatment becomes necessary to expel the Shaitan that entered through the conduit of envy. It’s crucial to note that not every case of the evil eye is accompanied by the presence of a Shaitan.

In instances of Shaytan Al-Ayn, the affected person may inadvertently cause harm to themselves or those around them more significantly than the average person due to the Shaitan within them. Once the individual receives treatment, returning to a normal state is possible. If someone experiences this, it is advisable to recite the Quran on Zamzam water or honey and gently wipe their eyes daily.

If Ayn causes physical harm, relying solely on Ruqiah (spiritual healing) may not suffice. It becomes imperative for the patient to consult a medical doctor. Scholars often illustrate this by posing a hypothetical scenario: if someone casts an evil eye on your car, resulting in a collision, the appropriate course of action is to seek the expertise of a car mechanic rather than solely relying on spiritual healing.

Treatment:

Recite Al-Fatihah, Ayat Al-Korsi, Last 2 verses of Surat Al-Baqarah, Surat Al-Falaq, Al-Nas, and Al-Ikhlas 7 times in the morning and again in the evening. Seek Hijama along with Ruqiah. The best Raqi in the world is You, because of how genuine, sincere, and humble your request for a cure from Allah.

Additionally, recite the Quranic verses that address Allah’s blessings and favors impacted by the evil eye. For instance, if business or trade is affected, recite verses related to commerce and sustenance.

Quranic verses that may treat evil eye and Hasad during Ruqiah:

  • Surah Al-Falaq, especially verse 5

And from the evil of the envier when he envies.

وَمِنْ شَرِّ حَاسِدٍ إِذَا حَسَدَ
  • Surat Al-Qalam, verse 51

“Those who disbelieve almost trip you with their stares when they hear the message, and say, “He is insane!” But it is no less than a reminder to all the beings.”

  • Surat Al-Nisa, verse 54

“Or do they envy the people for what God has given them of His grace? We have given the family of Abraham the Book and wisdom, and We have given them a great kingdom.”

Do not attribute failure or illness to the Evil Eye (Ayn) as a justification. If a student performs poorly on an exam due to inadequate study habits, it is not because of the Evil Eye. Ayn refers to an unforeseen disruption in one’s progress. For instance, a student who typically excels suddenly experiences difficulty concentrating or recalling information after attending a contest where they performed exceptionally well.

Could Ayn harm be renewed if I see again the person who gave me Ayn previously?

Yes. The Ayn would be stronger. It is called accumulative Ayn.

♦ A companion of the prophet took his shirt off while washing off the top of his body, a man looked at him with admiration and said “This skin is like no other.” The man immediately fell sick as if dying. Prophet Muhammed was informed of the incident, He asked his companions “Who do you believe has committed that to him?” Prophet Muhammed then said: “Why would one of you kill another?” “Why didn’t you bless him (ask Allah to bless the gift he bestowed on this person)?”

Note: The person who cast Ayn upon another, lived during the days of the prophet. Reflect on the present condition of people. Another remarkable aspect is that the person affected by Ayn wasn’t targeted for his wealth, health, family, home, etc. Surprisingly, he was afflicted with Ayn due to his skin! Therefore, we should avoid assuming that we have nothing that could attract Admiring Ayn.

How to wash away Evil Eye?

There is undoubtedly proof in the Sunnah in regards to making Wudua in a water basin to help the person afflicted with Ayn get an instant cure. This Hadith surprises individuals twice: first, because it’s unfamiliar to them, and second, due to the swift and effective nature of the treatment it prescribes. The therapy may not work for a skeptical person just trying to be experimental.

♦ Prophet Muhammed said “Ayn is true. If something would override Destiny, it would be Ayn. If you are asked to wash up, then wash up.” Authentic in the Book of Muslim

There are two treatment methods for the Evil Eye (Ayn). Ruqia is not the primary choice for treating Ayn; it is employed only when the source of the Evil Eye is unknown and to fortify oneself against its effects.

If you’re aware of who may have cast the Evil Eye upon you

If you know who gave you Evil Eye ask them to make full Wudua in a water basin and ask him to wash in the basin water the left and right side of his abdomen, toward the bottom of his rib cage, or dip the bottom of his inner garment or a small part of it in the same water basin. The patient then should ask an assistant to throw this water forcefully on the neck, shoulders, and sick areas of the afflicted person while bathing in a bathtub. The private body parts of the patient should be covered if an assistant is throwing this water at him.

  • Using this method, the patient could recover immediately from Ayn, unless Ayn has caused irreversible physical damage.
  • Some scholars add, In addition to Wudua, the person who gave Ayn, should wash his knee down to his feet in the water basin, not just the feet.
  • This treatment method works even if the person who gave you Ayn is a non-believer.
  • Protect yourself against Ayn with Ruqia but If you have been already afflicted with Ayn, then seek to wash away the Ayn method rather than doing Ruqia.
  • Repeat as necessary, as the person who gave you Ayn could have given it to you again.

If the individual who caused the Evil Eye is unwilling to provide Wudua water for the affected patient, Ruqiah Therapists suggest utilizing a trace of their body, such as saliva, hair, or sweat (excluding waste and blood, as it is prohibited). For instance, offer a bottle of water to the person who inflicted the Evil Eye, let them drink from it, and then immerse the empty bottle, which came into contact with their lips, in a basin of water. Proceed to shower with this water following the previously mentioned method. If there is a group of people suspected, and the specific person who caused the affliction is unknown, invite them for a meal and use their utensils by dipping them in a water basin. Then, shower with this water as detailed above. If identification of the individual responsible for the Evil Eye is necessary, dip each person’s utensil separately in water and shower with it to determine the reactive item. Another method is to invite the suspect to your house, and after he takes off his shoes, discreetly wipe the inside of his shoe with a small piece of cloth dampened with water. In case you are using a trace of the offender, then repetition in this process is crucial. This action helps alleviate the impact of Evil Eye, but for complete treatment, traditional washing may be necessary.

If someone casts the Evil Eye on your belongings, such as your laptop or car, you can take a trace of their body (like an item containing a remnant of their sweat or saliva), dip it in water, and then recite Ruqiah over this water. Use the water to wash your car, wipe your laptop, water your farm, and so on. If the affliction persists, the treatment should be repeated.

If you do not know who gave you Evil Eye, then do just Ruqia. Ruqia is mainly the Quran. Nothing but the Quran and Athkar of Prophet Muhammed. You are stronger than any magic, Ayn and Hasad if you say your morning, evening, and going to bed Athkar. Additionally, cover up your blessings. Furthermore, safeguard your blessings by avoiding excessive exposure, both in person and on social media.

Should I know who gave me Ayn or Hasad? Certainly, attempt to identify the person without becoming overly skeptical of individuals in your circle. Upon identifying the potential source, limit your interaction with this person and refrain from sharing details about your success, health, and wealth.

How would I know the person who gave me Evil Eye? They are typically too curious about you. You will notice after speaking with this specific person that you experience negative bodily reactions like tightness in your chest, headache, yawning, fatigue, or irritation.

Does diagnosing patients with Nazar “Ayn” contradict modern science?

No, It does not contradict modern science. For example, Autoimmune diseases are based on multiple factors like genetic disposition, immune system, and environmental factors. Autoimmune diseases could stay dormant for years but one wonders what triggers autoimmune disease to execute its pathological path. The disease was dormant and could have stayed dormant forever. In some cases, it could be triggered by Ayn and Hasad. So visit your doctor, take your medicine but also fortify yourself spiritually by seeking the power of Allah.

Warning:

Do not fall into myths or superstitions such as wearing or hanging amulets, talismans, or items like the blue eye, garlic, a single shoe, a shoe horn, certain metals, or special rings with specific stones or designs in your house or car. This is forbidden in Islam, has no positive effect, and can only cause harm. It indicates to Jinn and Shaytan that you lack true protection.
